What does this workshop cover?

This accelerated, three-day, hands-on workshop covers the basics of the C++ language at a fast pace. Emphasis is placed on understanding the overall concepts of object-oriented programming and how object-oriented programs are implemented in C++. Students learn how to implement encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism in C++. Topics include: constructors, destructors, virtual functions, references, new and delete, linking C and C++, and exception handling.

Why is this workshop important?

The C++ language is a very important language that is in widespread use today. Object-Oriented programming has clearly been accepted by the software industry because of the benefits it provides:

• Object-Oriented programs are better designed and can be more easily maintained and adapted than procedural languages.
• More code can be reused from project to project when the code is object-oriented, rather than procedural.
• Object-Oriented programs scale well in regard to the amount of complexity that the developer must face compared to procedural programs.
• Structuring programs in an object-oriented fashion paves the way for further developments, such as distributed object-oriented programming.

What will I learn?

This workshop will teach you how to:

• Understand the basic syntax of C and C++.
• Read and modify C and C++ programs.
• Understand the basics of object-oriented programming and how object-oriented programs are written in C++.
• Encapsulate data using the class construct and member functions.
• Implement inheritance in C++.
• Use virtual functions and virtual destructors to implement polymorphism.

Who should attend?

This course is geared towards the professional Non-C developer who wants a quick jump-start in C++, but is not as concerned about some of the less used features of C++ such as operator overloading or multiple inheritance. This course is primarily designed for Support Engineers who want a quick and clear understanding of C, C++, and Object-Oriented programming without having to learn all of the implementation details.
