This is our Advanced Java Programming for the Enterprise Workshop. It is a highly recommended grouping of advanced Java topics geared towards enterprise developers. It is an advanced, five-day course for developers who already have a working knowledge of Java and its core APIs and are looking to build open, distributed, enterprise systems. This workshop provides you with what you need to know about Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE).

During this course, attendees gain hands-on experience with advanced Java programming techniques necessary in a enterprise environment.

Why is this workshop important?

Today's businesses are facing a harsh reality - adapt to a web based e-business or get out of the way! The collection of technologies presented in this workshop will provide you with the skills you need to move your business on-line. Simple two-tier or three-tier architectures are not well suited for an internet scale application. Without a good solid understanding of new technologies such as JSP for building a browser-based front-end or EJB which provides an infrastructure on which an enterprise scale application can be built, your competitors might just pass you by!

What will I learn?

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Turn an object into a stream of data -- and then back into an Object using the Serialization mechanism.
• From a Java applet or application, invoke methods of remote Java objects using Remote Method Invocation (RMI).
• From a Java Applet or application, invoke methods of remote objects (written in other languages) using CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture).
• Build server-side software components using Enterprise JavaBeans.
• Access databases via JDBC.
• Call methods written in C/C++ from Java through the Java Native Interface (JNI).
• Use Servlets to handle various http methods including Post, Get, and Head.
• Use JavaServer Pages (JSP) as a portable light-weight front-end (browser-based, thin-client) to your enterprise applications.
